YOU must be doing something right when your guests keep coming back again ... and again ... and again. Especially when the returning guests also bring their friends back with them.

“... I FIRST discovered Smiling Hill when it was barely beginning and I have been
coming back for visits every year since. I come back because of the pleasant, relaxed
atmosphere and the friendly, helpful people and it has been remarkable to see it
all grow and develop and become even better. Smiling Hill and Batam are ideal for
anyone wanting an easy, accessible and affordable base to explore more of Indonesia
or other countries in the region. Those who try Smiling Hill will like the place
and especially the people who can offer so much with the “who, what, when, where
and why” of enjoying Batam and Indonesia. If you decide to visit there’s a good
chance that we may meet as I will back again for sure!” -
“ … THINGS are run very well. All the guys who hang around are good fun and an excellent
source of info. Food great, service same same … tours of the island or hot spots
if enough interest … lots of other surprises awaiting the weary lonesome traveller.”
-
“ … REALLY GREAT terrace bar with a great view and about the best bar-
“... THE STAY at the guesthouse was great. I Like the staff, the other guests, the food and the atmosphere. You are doing a wonderful job on making guests feel comfortable … say hi to Trevor for me. He is a great guy and a great addition to your team.” – Mark, California
“... HAVE never had the pleasure of staying at Smiling Hill as I live elsewhere on Batam. I can nevertheless vouch for the establishment based on numerous visits for a chat, a meal and a few beers. It is well run by great owners and is truly a home from home.” – Colin, Batam (fomerly South Africa)
“... PEOPLE!! -
“ ... UNLESS you are one of the growing number who have fallen under the spell of
Bali the odds are that you have never even remotely considered investing in Indonesian
property. You should. SOON! And the ideal place to start is Batam Island and the
Smiling Hill Lifestyle Estate next door to Singapore. It’s being developed and managed
by capable Westerners who understand and deliver what Western investors, owners and
tenants want. They have done their homework thoroughly and have completed more than
three years of testing to prove their business model. Compared to residential property
investments in developed countries, Smiling Hill rental yields and expected capital
growth are astounding, yet entry costs are still low. This is an excellent investment
for the medium to longer term. That’s why I am a shareholder. There’s good money
to be made … and the lifestyle benefits could change your life.” -

THERE are tens of thousands of people out there, especially older and single Western men (who are divorced, separated or widowers), who know in their hearts that there must be something better than the thankless, dull, boring existence they are now living.
Most simply don’t know about the alternatives available to them or how to make the break. They do not realise just how different, interesting and rewarding their life could be in another place and another culture. And they wrongly assume they could not afford it anyway.
This is the great tragedy -
Smiling Hill in Batam, Indonesia, may not be the answer for everyone -
Those of us involved in developing and operating Smiling Hill are a group of like
minded over 40s who started out to create an “ideal” lifestyle for ourselves -
The lifestyle aspect is still supremely important to us but as we have progressed it has become clear that we also are creating an outstanding investment vehicle generating income and asset growth for the investor members of our group.
Most of us also are now married to lovely Indonesian partners and many of us are actively involved in helping extended families or Indonesian friends, acquaintances and members of the local community to improve their lives.
There are still opportunities for others to become involved at Smiling Hill and elsewhere in Batam as visitors, residents or investors or all of the above.
As the warm and welcoming Indonesian people are so fond of saying:
“Terserah (up to you) Mister.”
– Douglas, CEO Smiling Hill Holdings
